A day to try out new sports and activities at Aberdeen Sports Village
A day of fun-filled sports and activities for all the family will take place this weekend, at Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV) to celebrate the end of the Denis Law Legacy Trust Community Football Festival.
Friends and families can join the action-packed programme of activities, free of charge, at ASV in the city’s Linksfield Road, on Saturday 28 July 2018.
The Denis Law Legacy Trust Community Football Festival has been a popular summer event in the city for years with a goal to make football accessible to everyone in the local community. It is always hosted by Aberdeen Sports Village, in association with Aberdeen Football Club, the Scottish Football Association and the AFC Community Trust. The festival is supported and endorsed by iconic Scottish football legend, Denis Law CBE, who originated from Aberdeen and had a successful career as a striker for clubs, including Manchester United and Manchester City.
The festival will culminate with a family sports day and will include a host of activities for children aged 5-12 which suits all abilities and interests running from 11.30am to 2.30pm. It is free to take part, and families can try activities such as yoga, badminton, table tennis and squash. Other sports throughout the day include Streetsport football which is a drop-in session, dry dive/trampoline, athletics, multi sports and athletics. Every child who comes to the Sports Day will receive a voucher to give them the opportunity to try out a class at ASV where classes range from pre-school to teens.
The world-class sports venue will also open its doors to inspire people to get fit. The facilities will be free to attend all day from 7.30am to 7.30pm, giving the general public the opportunity to try out the state-of-the-art gym, swim in the 25m pool at the Aquatics Centre and attend free exercise classes or compete in the athletic arena and play squash, giving everyone the chance to try out what they would get with an ASV lifestyle membership.
ASV CEO Duncan Sinclair said: “As a charity our main focus is to support people across our community and encourage them to get involved in sport. We want to see people of all ages and abilities using our facilities and getting excited about sport, so we’re thrilled that thousands of visitors will be pitching up to enjoy the day and be inspired to get fit and choose a healthy lifestyle.”
ASV is the top sporting and exercise venue in the country, with a state-of-the-art gym, more than 100 group exercise classes, an eight-lane 400m track, a six-lane indoor running straight, squash courts and sports studios. The world class Aquatics Centre offers access to an Olympic standard 50m pool, 25m pool and full diving facilities, including springboard and platforms up to 10m and two health and relaxation suites.
The expert team at ASV will be on hand on Saturday to offer advice and support throughout the day.
